Did you know that Golf the game we see played today was invented in Scotland in 1457 but then banned by the king for a time so people could focus on archery practice. This was needed so Scotland could defend itself against it’s enemies.

Now in the 21st Century Golf is a sport enjoyed across the world. In Hartlepool we are lucky enough to had not one but TWO amazing golf courses on our doorstep. The goal… the get round the 19 hole course in the smallest amount of shots.

This year Seaton Carew Golf Club and Hartlepool Golf Club were selected to host the English Amateur Championship with of the best amateur golfers from across the world decending on Hartlepool to play at these fantastic courses.

Why not try?

Now we know that golf isn’t for everyone, whether that’s the cost of the equipment or the length of the course so here are some golf themed ideas you could do instead.

Crazy Golf

Seaton Carew is home to Lofty’s Crazy Golf Course, so if you still want to test your skills and try for a birdie then head down to the course on The Front. Can you get a hole in one?

Foot Golf

Better with your feet? How about setting up a foot golf course at home or on the beach and challenge a friend to see who can get their ball in the target in the least amount of kicks.

The ball is bigger and so it the target, practice your skills and score like a pro!

Get Creative…

If the weather isn’t looking too good why not get the colouring pens and pencils out and design your own golf course.

Or if you’ve some cardboard boxes waiting to be recycled why not make you’re own mini golf course. The more complicated the better!
