DigVentures are hosting a Headland Beach Clean on Saturday 10th May at 10am.
Keen to get outdoors and do something that will make a difference? Come along to our beach clean and be part of a community effort to care for local wildlife and explore the fascinating stories hidden in the sand and surf!
At this practical session on the beach, you’ll get stuck in with litter-picking, learn about the impact of marine pollution, and explore how everyday actions can help preserve our precious coastal heritage.
Whether you’re passionate about the environment, interested in the history of our shoreline, or just fancy doing something good with your weekend, this beach clean is the perfect way to get involved.
Join us afterwards at St Hilda’s Church for light refreshments and an optional guided tour of the remarkable historic building, made possible by volunteers, and by generous funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

About this event:
This in-person event will take place on Headland South Beach, just a short walk from our meeting point at St Hilda’s Church.
Our friendly team will be there to welcome you, provide equipment, and guide you through everything you need to know, from safety tips to surprising facts about the area’s natural and historical significance.
During this session, you’ll learn:
- How litter affects local wildlife and marine ecosystems
- Simple ways to spot and safely collect different types of waste
- How beach cleans contribute to a wider environmental effort both locally and globally
You’ll also hear about the history of the beach and its surrounding area, and how the landscape has changed over time due to human impact and natural forces.
What will you help achieve?
You’ll help create a cleaner, safer beach for everyone to enjoy and you’ll be part of our community effort to protect the heritage of the Headland.
No previous experience needed, just bring your energy, enthusiasm and a sturdy pair of boots! Gloves, bags, and litter pickers will be provided, but feel free to bring your own kit if you have it. Suitable for adults and children over the age of 11, though under-16s must be accompanied by an adult.
Spaces are limited, but more events will be announced soon.
