Hart Saxon Church Saint Mary Magdalene
Located at Hart Village on the outskirts of Hartlepool, this beautiful Saxon church can be rooted back as far as 675AD, although the majority of its current fabric dates from the Norman times. This now Grade I listed building has a rather rich history.
Throughout the Norman period the church was part of the estates of the de Brus family, who in 1120 gifted the church and its surrounding land to the newly founded Guisborough Priory. Following the dissolution of the monasteries in the 16th century, the church became property of the crown. It later fell under the patronage of the Bishop of Durham in 1888, and much restoration work was carried out to preserve this beautiful and historic spiritual home.
