What you will need:

  • Your packet of sunflower seeds
  • A plastic container with a hole/s in the bottom for drainage (you use a pair of scissors to put a hole in if you need to).
  • Soil to fill your plastic container

What to do:

  1. Take your plastic container and fill it with soil leaving a 3cm gap at the top. Cut off and use the ruler at the bottom of this page to measure.
  2. With your finger make a hole in the centre of this soil that is about 3cm deep.
  3. Put your sunflower seed into the hole and cover it with soil.
  4. Gently press down on the soil making sure not to squash the seed.
  5. Water the soil and place on a windowsill that gets lots of sunlight.

If you have a larger container and are planting more than one seed at once make sure that the holes are more than 15cm apart.

Remember:

Make sure to water your sunflower regularly. If the soil feels dry it will need watering.
